Goat grazing is an effective and eco-friendly method for managing weeds and invasive plants. Goats are natural browsers, meaning they prefer to eat a variety of vegetation, including shrubs, vines, and weeds, rather than just grass. Their unique digestive systems allow them to break down tough plant materials, enabling them to consume a wide range of unwanted flora. Additionally, goats have a curious and adventurous nature, which encourages them to explore and nibble on hard-to-reach areas, making them excellent at clearing overgrown spaces.
The Board of Directors was tasked with exploring various methods to manage the weed overgrowth along the Pioneer Ditch Canal at the entrance of Heron River on State St. and Plummer. As a result, the implementation of a unique and eco-friendly approach involving goats grazing on vegetation and weeds was introduced to enhance the canals visual appeal and efficiently control weed growth. Hopefully you were able to see them in action!
On August 24th, Goats On The Go, the company that provided our delightful goats, hosted a special meet and greet for our community. This event was a fantastic opportunity to learn more about their company and the benefits of goat grazing. Children had a wonderful time petting and feeding the goats, asking questions and everyone enjoyed capturing memorable photos with these charming animals!
